The history
The Springbok Sevens team, nicknamed the Blitzboks, have been one of the South African rugby success stories in the last 20 years. They first played in the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series in 1999 and were crowned champions in 2009, 2017 and 2018 - the last two seasons marking a superb period for the team, which draw massive crowds at the annual HSBC Cape Town Sevens tournament played in the Mother City in December.
